My birth story 2, 2018.
My birth story 2018.
Women's bodies are powerful, and when left alone, are far more capable to birth.
Again, I'm going to keep it brief because it's instagram and most people barely read the captions these days...
So for my second birth we changed it up. We hired a private midwife for a home birth.
I waited for my mum to arrive from Germany (I obviously needed my mum at my births).
But 4 or 5 nights before she came I lost my plug, and I had powerful contractions for those 4 nights waiting for her to arrive. I know I was holding baby in because subconsciously what would I do if mum wasn't here?!
Anyway, I had been asking my partner at the time to pump up the birth pool - his response "yeah, I'll do it closer to the time". (It never got pumped).
With our last midwife visit she took my partners phone number making sure to save it incase she's in a meeting when the phone rings.
Mum arrived March 5th around 10am - my partner drove to work. I sat there walking around doing the old chores of a toddler and trying to settle everyone in. Hey mum check out this contraction, pointing to my belly that was hard as rock. She said, hmmm I think you're in labour. I called my partner, mum reckons I'm in labour - just keep an eye on your phone.
I was a little scared after having such a traumatic birth the first time, I couldn't let go. Lucky for me my step dad is a homeopath and he gave me a remedy.
Within 5 minutes I rang my partner back, "come home and call the midwife" I told him, barely being able to talk. He called the midwife. He called, and he called. She didn't answer. It turns out she never saved the number.
10 minutes later, my partner speeds in the drive way, I asked him to pump up the birth pool.
I felt something in my pants, my mum checked. It was my daughters head. I tried to walk over to the couch, I made it half way. All fours on the tiles, while my partner was desperately trying to pump the birth pool. It was too late. My baby was coming. I didn't have time to take my pants off.
My mum caught my baby before she fell onto the tiles bursting her bag as she entered earth side. Straight into my arms.
It was just after 12 noon.
The midwife came after I birthed the placenta.
