Is instagram putting too much pressure on us to birth a certain way

Is Instagram putting too much pressure on us to birth in a certain way ?!
Who defines what birth is meant to look like?
Not everyone is destined for that instagram birth (even though all sorts of births are worthy of Instagram and I believe we should show them more).
It doesn’t make it any less magical, powerful, primal, empowering…
Sometimes we just can’t quite avoid it.

I know this is a bit of a controversial topic but I have experienced both sides. The free birth without the midwife, and the hospital birth that seemed to defeat me. But I refuse to say ‘I failed’. Just because it didn’t look like everyone else’s on social media.
And I’m totally ok with that.
And maybe it was the pressure I was putting on myself to birth a certain way that didn’t allow me to let go… I’ll never know.
(I am actually grateful now as I believe this has prepared me for birth work - being able to see all possibilities and outcomes).

Are we putting so much pressure on our self for that romantic birth? In the water? With fairy lights and a photographer.
If you manage all that then amazing! (And of course I acknowledge how incredible that is) I’m just saying it’s ok if it doesn’t go to plan and we should never feel as if we ‘couldn’t do it’.

What happens when baby has other plans.
If waters break early …
If sickness puts stress on the body…

We need to stop feeling like we have failed if we don’t achieve that Instagram birth.
We need to stop comparing to others on social media.

Birth is nothing less than magical, primal, amazing - but some times we need to surrender.
And it is in that conscious surrender where we hold true power.
