The Down to Earth Birth Book.
A blog post why every birthing mother needs this practical guide to natural birth written by Jenny Blyth.
Since my mother passed this book down to me before the birth of my first baby, it has always been a fundamental for me in my household. This book has been my sort of bible not only for birth but whatever part of my journey through motherhood I was on, I have always looked back on it.
PART 1.
The book has almost everything you need to know about birth; it even talks about our impact on the environment (for those of you who know me I’m a massive environment lover so this is an extra plus). It begins educating through pregnancy and birth preparation. Showing women how powerful we can be when we start on the path of self-knowledge. It teaches the importance of body awareness, connecting, trusting and knowing your body. It includes stretches, positioning, breath work, massage, pelvic floor toning, preparation for breasts and nipples, and exploring and preparing your vagina.
This book will not only benefit women, but men, families and support workers. With pages and pages on special info for dads and support. As pregnancy, birth and beyond can be a confusing time for first time dads/partners, not knowing how or the best way they can support their partner through pregnancy and birth. A much needed acknowledgment for the huge shifts and changes both men and women face during pregnancy, birth and parenthood. Sometimes it’s more beneficial for men to read something then be told by their partner, am I right?!
PART 2.
Blyth writes in depth each stage of birth, detailing the process of birth for the reader to truly understand what the birthing mothers body is preparing for. Blyth also includes information for all outcomes of birth and natural remedies and positioning for breech and posterior babies. This book literally has it all!
PART 3.
What is really rewarding in this book for mothers is the education of after care. The quiet time mothers need, the importance to connect and bond with baby and family, to release the pressure to jump quickly back in to day to day life, to slow down, respect and appreciate everything the mother and baby achieved, the new baby care, breastfeeding support and essential new care for mothers.
Also including exercise after birth.
But what I really love about this book; is it talks about the darker face of motherhood. What is postnatal depression, why it happens and how to be aware of the signs. It gives you a clear path to health and healing with guidance on spiritual nourishment, herbs & homeopathic, diet and nutrition and much more!
BONUS INFORMATION.
This book is one that every women needs on their shelf. Why? Because it’s like Google, it has the answer to everything -buta more holistic approach.
My absolute favourite part, it has extensive information on breastfeeding, even a list of ‘what to eat’ and ‘what not to eat’. This list was stuck on my fridge when I breastfed my first baby, and my second! And last but not least I wanted to mention it has natural remedies for both mother and baby, different ways to ease colds, reflux, boredom, bottom burn etc. I highly recommend it!
